Although I didn’t specifically make anything new for #mmmay2018, I was able to commit to wearing memade items every day - and that included a whole lot of activewear!
As the weather was starting to turn cool down here in Sydney, I was usually grabbing my full-length tights and sleeved tee’s for the gym, as well as adding extra under-layers for karate training.
My absolute go-to tights were these ones. I made these using some of the black compression spandex, with accents using some neon green lycra from my stash and some of the new black peephole mesh.
The compression lycra is fantastic for cooler weather - as you know it takes a bit longer to get warmed up when it‘s cold, so having that little bit of compressive support is great for your muscles.
I used Jalie 3462 Cora tights for these. After cutting the lower leg accent pieces in both mesh and neon green, I layered the two pieces and machine-basted around the edges. Then I simply treated the layered piece as one for the construction of the tights. I love that little peek of colour!
I also got a lot of use out of this long-sleeve top in the grey marle polyester. It’s such a cosy, soft fabric, but it’s excellent wicking properties make it perfect for a cold-weather workout! Plus, the grey colour coordinates really well with so many other items in my activewear wardrobe.
My white mesh VNA top (from Fehrtrade Patterns) gets worn weekly in autumn and winter! Nothing beats it for layering under my karate uniform, along with a pair of tights made from some white compression spandex.
Apart from activewear, I was able to stick to the commitment of wearing at lease one me-made item every day for the month of May! (This did include underwear and pyjamas, but every piece counts!)
What’s your favourite activewear for winter? Do you keep your workouts indoors, or do you brave the elements and get active outdoors?
